so, I braved the crowds a little, just to take the kids in the van near the fireworks to see a little something, and would up right out by them, and it turns out pobo is fucking terrified of bigass fireworks, even from inside the van. Terrified

Awww, so sorry. I was that way when I was her age. I associated them with war--well actually, they're supposed to evoke cannon fire.

...around age 35 I managed to chill enough to be able to enjoy them from a low-noise distance. (In our case, think the Union Terrace.)
