It's pretty disgusting -- on SO MANY LEVELS -- that she wishes to render "mundane" an atrocity. That she would condemn as "mythologizing" the appropriate level of respect and compassion given those affected by an atrocity. As if "mythologizing" simply means "glorifying" or is somehow always positive, or somehow false.
I don't think I can read Bear's books. Ever. Because this is not the first time she's been directly called out about this; because she's been called out about other things, and it doesn't seem to phase her. At this point, her behavior as an author gets in the way of her work, for me. And she does not appear to be willing to learn from these discussions, or willing/able to be compassionate about the pain of other human beings. WTF, seriously.
It's Bear. She shows her ass so often she's traded all of her pants for chaps just for convenience.
I'm pretty sure, though, that I've used that word metaphorically, and so some good has come of this, that I'll be more thoughtful about that. (Especially since some of my relatives were a part of the Trail of Tears, ffs.)
As Maya Angelou said, when we know better, we do better. Bear just seems to have a problem with the "knowing" part. She hears, but she never quite seems to absorb.
