but sovegna_vos mentioned NPH's production of RENT at the hollywood bowl, and I was squeeish, and I went and was reading the reviews, and more squee, and yay and stuff, and then I see wayne brady mentioned. And I'm like, damn, I guess he'd be an *ok* benny, actually, but shit, wayne brady. and then I see he is not playing benny. He's playing Tom Fucking Collins. And I am actually fighting back tears at how hard I do not trust him in that role. I mean, I guess I should trust NPH not to fuck up rent, and reviews are surprised by Brady's handling of it, but I'm totally shook up by it. Collins is a totally iconic character to me, and I don't know who should be cast if not Jesse L Martin, other than NOT WAYNE BRADY. I DO NOT BELIEVE HE CONTAINS ENOUGH AWESOME.



Anyhow, this mofo better turn up on video somewhere. I'm off to youtube.

Well, two things: this is a concert production, so its focused on the songs. And second, if all you've seen of Brady is on TV, then you've only seen like 1/5th of who he is, so I can totally get the trepidation, because on TV he's just a big giant dork/minstrel, which is only the slightest part of who he really is.

I've just been listening to "I'll Cover You" and Wayne Brady is really rather awesome-sounding as Collins.
