anyone know anything about the G5? Z has a chance to pick one up for not too awful much more than a comparable G4, but has heard a couple things about clockspeed problms with the 5, and doesn't want to drop the extra money on it if it's not gonna be lightning fast.
Brightwell? Anyone?

The G5 is rock-solid, but tends to be hot and draws a lot of power. If you leave it on 24/7, you'll see a spike in your power bill.

What're the complete specs/price? That'll give me a better idea of whether or not it's a good deal. :)

it's a 1.6 gigahertz 80 gig hd, 512 RAM, dvd/cd-rw with a 20 inch cinema monitor, for like 550-600 bucks. It's the monitor that's convincing him it's worth it.

I'm pretty well convinced we don't have 500+ fucking dollars, but what do i know?

That's a steal, IMO, but the 1.6 GHz G5 doesn't dance circle around the 1.5GHz G4. Not from what I've read, anyway. Most folks went for a dual 2.0 G5 or a PowerBook when the 1.6 was new.

For $600, though, I'd say that's a steal. If it had more RAM or a built-in DVD burner, it would but a much nicer machine, but that's no surprise. RAM is an easy upgrade and most normal folks don't need a DVD burner. :)
