Suzette Haden Elgin is sick. Like, too sick to blog, health issues and alzheimers making it so she can't even focus for email correspondence. she's my hero. like, my favorite anything ever. I can't deal. Of all the brains for that asshole disease to attack, I can not bear to imagine her brilliant, brilliant mind going through what my grandma did.

She is such an inspiration to me. You don't even know. She changed my life and how I thought and communicated in several major ways. I am so honored to have met her and spoken with her as much as I have, and desperately wish I had spoken with her more. I'm so thankful for her words, and her influence on me. She's who I named my son after, although I spelled it different. I have part of her language tattooed on me. I'mma go cry myself to sleep.

Oh my yes. Her books were vital for understanding the double-speaking college grads around me. Her books always mentioned ASL, and helped pushed me to study more and, briefly, work as an English-Sign interpreter. And to meet her in person at WisCon! There are not enough exclamation points in the type case!
