degrassi

so, I am nervous about tonight's degrassi. They've apparently gotten done introducing Adam as just another character, and now it is time for the trans bashing plotline, where his "secret" comes out and some of the bad element kids rough him up. I think they should have given him a little more plot where it wasn't an issue first, before getting to the ugly parts, but I knew they'd go there sooner or later. They usually have a pretty awesome record of handling these things compassionately, the one where marco got gaybashed comes to mind, but there is so much room to fuck this up. The previews look at least like the characters involved in the outting and roughing up are known unsympathetic characters, not misguided good kids or neutral strangers, so it doesn't make me think they're going to try to justify it, but idk.

and yes, I know it is just a cheesey teen soap opera, but that almost makes it more important they not fuck it up, because the target audience doesn't have a lot of other information on trans kids.


I need to add an Adam icon to my degrassi collection.
