Ah yes. Amanda "I have made no money from my recent album" Palmer, for whom the funds for making the album and touring and promoting it and thus her money making image don't count because they weren't royalties.
To be fair to her, record companies notoriously screw artists over in the "calculating expenditures against royalties" process. I know lots of people to whom that has happened, so I am willing to accept that that may have happened to her as well.
Pretending to be a sexually exploited conjoined twin for attention, on the other hand, gets her nothing but scorn from me.
Good point and one I left out, even though I know enough music types to recognize it. She has hinted, however, saying the album won't make money involves financial issues beyond the album itself, which seems like fudging to me, but maybe not. I believe her struggles are genuine, but are a privileged, globe-trotting, wired version in which a post about debt includes glee over buying an iPhone. It's not one where can't accompany the boyfriend to the golden globes due to a lack of funds. This recent controversey indicates her mix of hype and authencity has a dubious side, and I say this as someone who like some of her music and observations.
