Considering moving to Toronto. Seems too good to be true. Cheap rent, living wages, culture, food, theme parks. 10 hour drive from here. What am I missing? Do I have to blow mounties to get residency? Are the rental ads for 700 bucks or less all lies?

Maybe you need to speak French, wait a minute that would only be Quebec. Sounds fantastic. Oh and healthcare!

Legally immigrating to Canada -- getting the documentation necessary to work, etc. -- is rumored to be a huge pain in the ass. That would be one major catch right there.

Toronto is a fabulous city. My family lived there for a month one summer when I was about ten, and I loved it.

You need an advanced degree and either a job already lined up or 6 months' salary in savings before they'll let you immigrate. One of my LJ friends just got resident status and is working on citizenship--[livejournal.com profile] whitephoenix. Tell her I sent ya if you want to talk to someone who's done it.

There's also a test on which you have to get a certain score, weighted for job and language skills.

You'll have to evolve beady eyes and a flappy head. ;)
