I've been removed from at least one comm, rightly, for not removing someone who is associated with some racist bullshittery from my flist. I have no excuse, she has now been removed, and all I can say is I added her before I knew, and never got around to removing her.




I just don't want anyone to think I willingly kept that kind of person on my list while being in anti-racist comms.

all I know, I mayhav been removed from other places too, and that would be fair.

I don't think that's really fair. If you didn't know she was like that, someone could have... oh gosh, I dunno, mentioned it to you before removing you.

I didn't know when I added her, but it became clear since then. I just forgot she was even on my damn list.

I don't think it's fair. You shouldn't be kicked out of communities because of who you have on your friend's list. I don't know why people assume if someone is on your friend's list they are actually your friend. You could just be interested in reading their journal.

And even if they are your friend, so what? I don't think I agree on everything with anyone on my friends list. And they go from one extreme of devout religious stay at home mom, to bipolypagan. And while I couldn't be friends with someone that is racist for obvious reasons, that doesn't mean I think a comm should boot you for who you associate with.

eh, they have way less obligation, (read:none) to be "fair" to me as a well meaniong whitechick than they do in trying to keep racists, and people who associate with them the hell out.

I'm with the other 2. It's ridiculous to remove someone from a comm based on who's on their flist instead of basing it on their own words and deeds. Not everyone on my flist has the same politics and beliefs as I do. I don't keep people who post rampant bigotry on, it's true, but some of my friends still have some opinions that make me cringe.

This was big though. her cronies were involved in some trolly posting of poc's pictures for shitty reasons, apparently at her encouragement. it's a matter of keeping relatively safe space, and I fully support that. .

I mean, I agree it was pretty aggressive, but a big part of it was an attempt to resecure the comm and avoid any friends of theirs who might be sympathetic grabbing more caps to post.

I don't censor who's on my f-list at all, as a semi-public figure strange people want to be my friend and I add them and may or may not put them on the filter that I read. I think it's BS to be expected to check, unless someone points it out to you as objectionable.

I kind of think that's kind of crazy.

I mean, I go through months where I don't read my communities. If the person on my FList was being a racist asshat in communities but didn't give me any indication one way or another in their personal journal, I'd have no clue what they were up to.

Instead, I'd just see I'd been kicked and wonder what the hell happened.
