I finally registered the family for Wiscon, and spent several minutes trying to figure out what name goes on my badge. I went with Maevele rather than stupid legal name, but now i feel that may be weird with th whole "psueds are wrong" thing. i'm not trying to keep stupid legal name a secret, and face it, if someone has a problem with something i have done, it's Maevele they're gonna be looking for not Stupid Legal name. I think I had Maevele on the badge last year, even.

It's weird for me because I don't lik the legal name.

Afaik there are like 2 people insisting pseuds are wrong and a whole ton of others saying, "Um, no." My LJ name will be on my badge. Screw 'em.

The only people on the "Pseuds are Wrong" side of anything are not folks you want to worry about, anyway. Be as pseudolicious as you want to, or don't want to.

My name is not actually my legal name (sorry folks) but it is the name I go by and everyone knows me by it. It's way different to be traceable in some way from being anonymous which is also different from saying stuff pretending that you don't have a position of authority. You're fine!

Last year I had my given name on my badge, but wrote in the name I go by on LJ and all my message boards. I actually do like my given name, and would be weirded out to be called "Kayjayoh" out loud, but I like people to be able to put a name to a face.

But beyond that, I say go by how you want to be known. If anyone needs to know your legal names...well, they can damn well ask, right?
