So what's you're vote on Ro Laren? I was thinking Succubus, but after the thinking in ancient greek, and the eating, drinking and dancing, i'm thinking Maenad.
There was a Maenad in the books? Damn... i don't remember that.
oh.. wait.. were they the ones responsible for the drunken orgies at the detective's place that resulted in lafayette's death? i thought that was just people being people...
I'm glad they're not killing off lafayette like that in the series, but i'm still disappointed that there's no Bubba and that Jason is still human.
She wasn't really responsible, but she was drawn to it. Maybe it was book 2 *I am on vacation away from my books*. Maenads are always drawn to drunkeness and madness. In the book: Sookie and Bill are in car, arguing (he tells her she can get whatever she wants at Tara's store and the others on his property, and she tells him she's not a kept woman), and his car dies in teh wood--he goes off, she stays, and meets M. who uses her to send message to the vampires (hits her with thrysis--sp?). Sookie's poisoned so they call in the healer, and she has to have blood transfusion. (Multiple vampires OO).
Message is to Eric that she wants tribute--at one point in book, he and others take young bull out into woods. Maenads move around (there's a whole bunch of info Sookie learns from the vampires), but she's in the area for a while.
The main plot is Lafayette's death--and Sookie investigating--it all culminates at the orgy house (Eric goes to keep Sookie safe--wearing pink and blue lycra--ooooo).
Sookie is trying to help Andy--and the climax is the maenad showing up (with Sam who's been hanging out with her).
It's incredibly done--but Harris' maenad is much more....as I would imagine her being. The tv series is clearly making her....hmmm....much more integrated into mainstream society?
Eggs is Tara's boyfriend in the book, but that's about the only thing that's similar so far.
When I first saw Maryann (and I didn't recognize her as Ro--Entwife did), I thought she might be Sookie's Fairie godmother, Claudine, just on the appearance, but the hanging out with feral pig (who are truly terrifying--they're a real problem in parts of Texas where I life) was the identifier.
I've read the books....umm so many times I've lost count. Jason becomes a werepanther a little later on in the series--I don't know how they'll handle that given his new commitment to God, Sobriety and I assume chastity?
And yes, BUBBA. I'm trying to remember when he showed up--he might still be in the wings, so to speak.
If you find out, let me know. I've been babbling on my journal--haven't seen any announcement of communities (and I'd be a bit leery due to me going critical on the series due to book love and my general aca speak to babble on too much in a community until I knew they'd be open to it). I was once accused at Pop Culture of saying Captain Kirk was a racist!
okay, the things that ae itching at me. lafayette! VAMP LAF? how fucking much would that rock.
maryanne must be the maenad, just because of the damn pig.
i don't think bubba showed up until later in the books, so he might still turn up, but when does claudine show up?
having read the books, my flaming hatred for bill for what happens later is already coloring my watching of the show. i know it isn't fair, and shit, AB is changing the story enough that bill may not asshole up, but i still have these flashes of hatred for him.
