I have started making an actual effort to listen to music recently rather than just listening to whatever cds are in my van, that the kids will put up with, and sometimes hooking last fm up to the speakers and hoping for the best, and like all I had listened to for a whiiiiile there was amanda fucking palmer, because holy shit, and that got me wanting to spend more time enjoying some damn music, because it has generally been up there, maybe even in the lead, with reading, for how I manage my mind.

anyhow, so I started dl ing some more actual sngs, ALL PERFECTLY LEGIT AND ALL, OF COURSE, and bought myself a pair of actual koss headphones instead of earbuds, and was just doing the, hey, what do I like, anyway thing, and checked out more of Paolo Nutinis stuff in particular, and then busted out my damien rice collection, and just set myself up a proper playlist again, and argh, what is wrong with me that I let myself stop listening to music in any serious way for this fucking long, omg

so, as I am gettuing back into music, I am trying to figure, in this new internet economy, the best way to compensate artists for their work. I know AFP would rather people did not buy from her label, but download the music and then kick in money at concerts or on merch, but I am not sure how that translates with acts that are not on hostile ground with their label, or who need the actual sale numbers to get the label to give them a chance to make the next album. Because yeah, fuck buying a 12 dollar cd that the artist sees 60 cents on, I would much rather download it and then paypal the artist something

also, a hair post is forthcming
