the question in the demographic section of the wiscon surveys about level of education starts at "high school diploma" and I know it's a little thing, but it still flinched me.

It is not a little thing! I will bug people to get it changed.

The survey has been revised - it's currently "out of order" due to the way they were put into the website (while it was live), but it will be changed and in a sensible order for next year.

YOU ROCK. Is it bugging too much to ask that it be looked at for perhaps better break-downs over all? I don't recall that there was anything for "some college," which i think is fairly standard on other surveys i've filled out. And i know that "some college" would include more than just this particular college flunk/drop-out (in part because Nisi mentioned her own flunk-out status during the class basics panel). I can respect that Wiscon might not want TOO much granularity in their survey, but it does seem like some standard gradations are missing.

It is not too much! In fact, the ConCom member who revised the survey already said that she added "Some College" as an option, too, so I think it should already be up.

Cool. :) I already completed the survey (possibly under the influence of cold medicine, so god knows what i wrote), but i'm glad the options have been expanded for future respondents.

Just to clarify, "out of order" doesn't mean broken, it just means that the choices are not in a logical order.

I'm glad to have made the fixes and welcome more suggestions.

And again, it bothered me a little bit that there wasn't a "some college" option. My issue isn't as big as yours, but I dislike having to choose between "yes I graduated hs" and ... nothing else. I may not have gotten a college degree but I spent something like seven years in school.

But yea, it's especially upsetting not to have anything before the "high school diploma" category because it does feel rather classist and ... what's a good word for education privilege? elitist?

I'd go with educational elitism, maybe?

I feel dumb for letting it bug me, but to be honest it really does. The one way wiscon feels like shaky ground to me is as a dropout among academics, so the reminder that it's taken for granted I have more institutional education than I do, while I was still feeling accomplished for holding my own on panels with srs akademyks, really smarts.

You shouldn't feel bad because it is pretty weird that they don't have it as an option.

I swear to god you brought this up last year and they said they would change it.

The survey's just been updated with options for "other" and "some college". They're out of order, but that will be fixed in the future.

cool! "other" may not be optimal, but it's something

I brought it up on my journal, but didn't like, tell the concomm, so I don't recall anyone official saying they'd change it.

I don't think it's dumb at all for it to bug you. It bugs me and it's not even an issue that relates directly to me!
