moving angst

not just over the fact that we have like a month and a half to get moved, including all the packing and coming up with the moving money, but specifically over what we're giving up to get this place.

Yeah, it is bigger, it is gorgeous, it has enough bedrooms, I love the kitchen like burning. It also has no yard and no basement. We have gotten really used to having a full sized basement to keep too much crap in, and our own yard. I never had my own yard as a kid, because we were always in apartments, so having our bigass yard in this duplex has been a big deal to me. And this place is complex apartments/townhouses, so although there is green space, it is shared space. so we can't bring our swingset, sandbox, or set up tents in the yard. OTOH, because we're out in a neighborhood where everyone has their own yard, there are never roaming freerange kids out here, so is having our own yard really a bonus? and it's close enough to walk to actual playgrounds. as for the basement, yeah, extra storage, but do I really need to store that much shit I am not regularly using? fuck no. The new place has almost as much sq footage as our current place plus our basement, so i'll have plenty room for everything we do use.

And did I mention the master bedroom is a big open loft, with a skylight! and I have wanted a loft bedroom since I was a wee little geek. It's been second only to wanting a turret bedroom. it's got two little narrow weird spaces that are perfect for storing the musical instruments and bookshelves. squee. the closets have shelves!

and yeah, it costs more than where we are now, and actually somewhat more than other 3 bedrooms we looked at,but it's also way more energy efficient and includes a discount on internet, and is less of a drive to work for Z. So overall the budget won't change that much.

yeah, the only drawback to the one we're in now is we are a bedroom short. and the lack of free range kids. but if we could just slap a third bedroom on here for a couple hundred extra bucks, we'd stay and keep our yard and basement. but we can't so we updrage to a bigger place, downgrade the yard and bsmnt

Sounds like a win to me! Especially the loft bedroom. (drooling over the thought of having a loft bedroom).

If you're looking for moving money, I suggest a giant yard sale to get rid of the stuff you can't take with you. And I'm sure that's already occurred to you, but just imagine what you could make selling the swingset and sandbox alone. Good luck with the move! And post pictures of your awesome new house if you get a chance.

That would work if only all our stuff weren't either curbscored, thrift shopped or yard saled in the first place. We're gonna yard sale some stuff though.
