People opposed to disinviting do not include the whole concom, or even the troika. From what I can tell it is just a couple of people making excuses.
The concomm and troika do not represent wiscon as a community. The wiscon community includes an awful lot of the people angry about this shit.
I want to cut the concom some slack on the time issue. we're all having this conversation at internet speed, and the concom is having this conversation at once monthly meetings. I think they are in a situation where they have to carefully weigh what they do next and can not say too much about their plan. I say this as an outsider to the concom based on what I have picked up from out here.
I'm not trying to make excuses though, I do think there was some hard fail from people in official positions within the con, and things needed to be handled differently than they were, I just hate to see it conflated to "wiscon itself has failed" when wiscon is so much bigger than any officiating group that helps run it. This shows there is something that desperately needs fixing, yes, but not that wiscon as a whole is irreparably broken.
Wiscon is where I first met so many of you. And so many other wonderful, awesome people trying to actually work for true change. We are Wiscon too.
