offered to bring stuff to take pressure off my friends who host the tgiving. made the biggest mac and cheese EVER, heaped up above my 9x13 pan, and am now about to mash 5 pounds of tatoes. Dinner rolls and sweet potatoes will be made right before we head over. I got frozen bread dough and canned sweet potatoes, because lazy.

I'd fucking hate to be trying to do all this while making turkey and all the rest, but I really enjoy doing this much. I think if we did the holiday at home, I'd skip the turkey, buy the pies, and just make the mac and taters and veggies.

I did a supermarket pre-basted turkey breast, and it was pretty damn easy--just stuck it in the oven for an hour and 15. I wouldn't want to do a whole bird either, though.

(ETA: I should note that I did manage to set my oven glove on fire while trying to make gravy. In my defense, my family's always had electric stoves, not gas ones that can...well, set oven gloves on fire.)

I can testify that electric stoves are also capable of setting over mitts on fire.

We converged on 92 yr old Mom's house, stopping by the grocery store to pick up a 8 − 10 lb bird. Cooked fir 2 hours this AM. Nicely crunchy & brown skin, very tender, I suspect it was injected with a scary list of "flavor enhancers" (MSG). This grocery store also sold all the sides, but we brought some of them.

(I have the very best cran relish ever).
