Which way is drag from here?
Jan. 7th, 2011 12:35 pm Okay, an old friend of mine is hosting the drag bingo party later this month, and I'm kinda considering going, because I haven't seen her in years and would love to see her and DRAG BINGO! HOW AWESOME IS THAT?
But like, would I drag as a king or a queen? This friend knows me as a cis chick, obviously, and might find it weird and appropriating for me to show up as a queen. And body wise, no matter how much a sparkly dress feels like drag, I'm obviously built kinda like a girl once I am in a dress. Although when she was a young drag queen, and we hung out a lot, she's the one taught me to do drag style makeup. And like, full "drag king" style doesn't feel very draggy to me. It feels costumey and overly dressed up, but not draggy. IDEK. And I do still have like three perfect drag dresses thanks to clothing swap at wiscon. Two evening gowns and one 60's housewife number. But I don't want to look like a chick mocking queens.
I may as well admit I am not going to go to bingo, because I'd have to ditch Z with the kids on one of his rare days off, so it doesn't matter, but I would really like to go. I guess I should see if Z wants to kid wrangle, and then angst over wardrobe.
In other going out sometime news, it turns out all these years I thought Z thought he was too cool to dance and gave him shit accordingly, it's that he thinks he CAN'T dance. 16 years of NOT GOING OUT DANCING because I thought he hated it and thought it was for dorks, and it's that he wouldn't tell me he couldn't dance. And I'm like "CAN YOU MOVE RHYTHMICLY? YOU ARE A FUCKING DRUMMER. YOU CAN FUCKING DANCE" and made him slow dance with me in the living room. and then was like DAMMIT, WE HAVE A LOT OF GOING OUT DANCING TO MAKE UP FOR. WE NEED A BABYSITTER. and talked a bit and he was like, "um, I might really hate it" but then we figured out that if he can get drunk, he won't hate it, and I don't need to drink to have a good time going out if I can fucking DANCE. So as long as I drive us home, he'll enjoy himself. So now I need a babysitter. and a clue about where the good places to go out dancing like big dorks are. Since we read as a straight couple, I can't just hit the gay bars.
