The kids are watching RENT on DVD. Not all of it, just the musical numbers they like best. They insisted we buy it on DVD after watching their favorite soundtrack songs on you tube. There is NOTHING appropriate about this, really, but momo* loves Today 4U too much for me to deny her any longer. they love it, and I love it, and if they ever freaking sleep, I shall watch the entire movie again.

*she now insists she only be called "Momo" not moji, not immie, never mimi, but only momo.

Elliot's current favorite movie is "Pride and Prejudice". He wakes up, asks for a Banana and then requests "Mr. Dracy? Watch Mr. Darcy?". Which, okay, there's nothing egregiously wrong with P&P, but it's really not the gender roles that I want to be modeling. Not to mention that everyone is totally obsessed with marriage the whole time. E just likes it because there are horses and there is dancing. I'm still a bad mama.

My oldest kid loves "Today 4 U." I figure some day I'll have to explain that it's a person singing about killing a dog, but that day is not yet.

Heh. HQ figured that out, and it's part of why he loves the song, bloodthirsty lil freak. I'm concerned, however, that once he figures out Angel is in drag, that it'll be his own personal crying game. She's his favorite.

No that would be me.

Ah, but Sylvia know Buffy (and I mean all of it) backwards and forwards and perhaps diagonally too. There have been one too many a marathon since we bought the big box set. Oh and Ian lets her play fighting games. I think will all the sex and violence she is being exposed to via media that I take the trophy for bad Mama. But at least she is comepletely smitten with science fiction/fantasy so I must be doing something right.

Heh, Momo has to ask me if every show that isn't a cartoon is Angel. She loves it. Especially Lorne. She yells "Guy, guy, girl, GREEN GUY" at allthe characters.

That's cute. Sylvia is also completely smitten with the new Doctor Who. The old ones, not so much, she keeps asking me why they aren't in color. Also she refers to people as humans as though there might be other choices. Kids are funny.

You are not a bad mom!

Puppy's been exposed to all manner of "inappropriate" music and such for years and years and years, and he's doing just fine. (He'll be 14 next month).

A funny Puppy NIN story, from when he was like 3: One day in the car he kept bouncing up and down in his seat asking to listen to the "Pop the Trunk" song. We were flummoxed. Over and over for days: "Pop the trunk song?"

Finally, we figured it out. He was thinking of NIN "Perfect Drug": He was hearing "You wanna pop the trunk, pop the trunk, pop the trunk" for "You are the perfect drug, the perfect drug, the perfect drug." We put it on and he danced and danced and sang along, thinking about coming home with groceries.

And Shana? Puppy with the Buffy, too, and now he runs D&D campaigns for his friends and reads voraciously. There are worse things. Many, many worse things. I have seen them all in Puppy's peers on the hockey team.

When my cousin was just a few years old her favorite songs were "Dude Looks Like a Lady" and "Dragula". She would dance to them very cutely. I think she liked the strong bass and heavy beats. She did not know what the words meant.
