They might not have noticed it for awhile, given the apparent nature of the error. And since all 16K people jumped on them without knowing what the fuck was going on, the number is rather irrelevant.
Not yet, but yes, I do think that they would have fixed eventually if and when they realized it. I don't think Amazon handled this well, but I don't think it was malicious corporate intent. Abject corporate stupidity followed by an utter failure to mitigate the harm, yes.
