So I saw the deal with wiscon's 6th floor rooms, etc, and so me and Z got to talking, about how much it would be to hotel up for wiscon, and the benefits thereof, and I so totally want to work out a way to do it. On the This is Dumb side, we have; it's 250 bucks (either for 2 nights, or three if we get the 6th floor deal) and we're fucking local, so don't have to hotel up for the con, but on the This is Brilliant side, We wouldn't be driving 20ish minutes each way a couple times a day each day of the con, which would give me more con time, the kids would have pool access, game room access, and a room in the hotel where they could get a break instead of driving them out to the house when they get assy. I could hang out at hall parties and shit without feeling bad that Z was home with cranky kids or trying to keep them contained in the consuite, or whatever, he could have them in the pool, or chilling in the stylin hotel room, no one would be designated driver so we'd both be free to have a couple of beers, and just in general, it would rock to be onsite all weekend instead of driving back and forth for shit I want to do.

It's months from now, so throwing aside a little bit here and there will cover the hotel, but I can't help thinking we'd be wasting money, since I could just do it the way I always do, and shuttle back and forth the whole time.

make up my mind for me internets

If you guys can afford it, do it. It's nice to be able to stay up late, and be an elevator ride away from bed.

definitely stay at the hotel if you have the funds. it will be like a mini-vacation and you can relax and have fun instead of worrying about the drive there and back every day. and if you get tired in the middle of everything, you can go to your room, take a nap, and come back later!

and of course the main reason to stay in hotels at all: cable TV = Animal Planet!

I think this should answer your dilemma. :3

Request it fast, or they'll all be gone. You can always cancel later.

I love staying at the hotel. I spent years attending WisCon but staying at my parents' house and driving back and forth; staying at the hotel is a lot more fun. However, it massively increases the cost of the con.

Dude, being at the hotel= karaoke night without worrying about getting back so soon, because you'll all be at the hotel and Z won't need to worry about you driving home and stuff. HOTEL= VERY YES. And like you say, you can start saving up money now.

I wouldn't have been able to handle my first WisCon this year without the hotel room and I'm local. It helped immensely as far as saving spoons and having a sure quiet calm comfy place to go rest when needed where I had all my meds and supplies and favorite foods. I'll definitely be doing it again next year.

I'm with Naomi; if you reserve now but the $250 seems too overwhelming, you can cancel 48 hours in advance.

I also have done it both ways: driving back and forth from friends' houses, and staying is MUCH better.

You also have a quiet place to go lie down in the middle of the day if you need it . . .

We keep going back and forth on this in our house too. I mean we seriously live like 10 minutes from the concourse. OTOH I despise having to miss parties and early morning panels just because the kids have bedtime and/or we oversleep.
Goes and talks to Ian. . .

omg, if ou guys get a room on six too, maybe we'd be neighbors! because I went ahead and made my reservations last night and contacted wiscon about the deal on 6, and seem to be in. We could get connecting rooms and throw a party! a kid party!
