The women's music jam thing was weird because pretty much NO ONE showed up, just the guitarist/singer hosting the thing, her girlfriend who wasn't performing, and like four regulars who were there to drink and play video slots. And me. So she was mostly just playing solo, kinda melissa/indigo girls style stuff. And I had chatted with the girlfriend, who encouraged me to sing, and she went up and told the host I was looking to do something more acid rock, which is in no way what I had said to her, but whatever. And the host looked at me, and busted out the opening to blister in the sun. and I was like, Aight. and she started flipping through her book to find the words, and I saw halleljuah and was like, "I'll always sing that, too"
So we busted out blister, and then she was like "You wanna try that hallelujah song, then?" and we went right into it. She played it fast, and I think by her harmonies was used to the kd lang version, but we did alright. And then I dug through her song book to find more stuff we could do together, and probably did a half dozen songs? We did U2, joan osborne, She even talked me into doing helplessly hoping by crosby stills etc, but i hadn't sung that fucker since, um, 94, so it was moderately faily.
Right before I had to go, a few more people had shown up, and I gave in and asked her which indigo girls songs she had down best, and we did closer to fucking fine. And we fucking nailed that shit hard, as all musical queer ladies of a certain age can nail that song. I forgot how much fun music with other people really is.
Generally, yeah, awesome, going next week, and I'm going to try to drag a bunch of you out too, because it would be more fun with more people. I wish I coulda stayed later, but Z had to work so I had a curfew. I'm going to try to find sitter action for thursdays, and am going all night when Z is off work.
