and I may as well start with a question. Once everyone has settled back in from wiscon, can someone tell me why frenkel was there after what happened last year?

I've been assuming that the situation just got overlooked and he slipped through the cracks, but I don't really know, and it bugs me.

Apparently WisCon policy is to perma-ban after 3 reports, and there has only been one official report against him =/ I can't seem to find that in writing, so I'm thinking of bringing it up if I can to the concom.

Also if you saw Liz Henry's tweet, apparently Frenkel thinks he didn't do anything wrong, he was just joking, and it would have been "cowardly" and an "admission of guilt" to have stayed home. Ugh.

Hi, I'm not sure where you heard this, but we don't in fact have a policy to perma-ban after X # of reports. Rather, the policy is flexible, which is why the policy that appears on our website doesn't have any such hard/fast rules like these.

When I tweeted about if there was a specific concom person for this stuff, I got this in reply: "@sophygurl We have a Member Advocate. This was announced at Opening Ceremonies. They can be reached at" so that's something to try if you want more info?

Yeah. The Member Advocate is new, this year, and so is the Harassment Policy Committee. Safety's focus is on responding to the incident at the time. If I understand right, there hasn't been anyone whose responsibility it is to think about how to handle problems that persist from year to year, because it has literally never come up before.

SO, they're figuring it out now. It is important to tell them when they get things wrong, but I don't see much point in demanding to know why the problem wasn't fixed before it happened.

Yeah, no, I didn't mean to reproach you. I didn't think you were demanding and I'm sorry I phrased it that way.

No, you're not overstepping, and your question seemed diplomatic to me. It's an excellent question.
