I'd like to quit fearing for my president so hard now thanks.

I thought that if Obama didn't win, we'd be ripe for a revolution, that right thinking people would be so angry they would rise up. It never occurred to me to think that the wrong thinking people would rise up if he was elected.

I didn't think America would get scarier if he got elected. I really thought the scariest thing would be for the right to keep control, not for them to freak out about not having it anymore.

I'm actually hoping the Secret Service goes all XXth Century on those folks -- better targeted than going medieval and less likely to make martyrs of 'em, but still effective. If I were feeling especially vicious I might wish for the SS to get XIXth Century on 'em, but that would just be ugly.

Either way, I've been praying -- not every night, but a whole bunch of times since November -- for the Secret Service to be really on its toes and also catch all the lucky breaks for at least the next eight years. I've been worrying about this since election night. I really want to see Obama die of extremely advanced age. (Including living long enough myself to be around when Obama gets that old, of course ...)

XXI Century would be fine too. Really, I just want these people watched, and busted. And busted in the way where they are humiliated, shamed, and not martyrs.

As for Obama: I want to see both of the Obamas live to be 103 years old, and to have them die peacefully in their beds.

What frightens me most is not that this particular man might make good on his threat. What frightens me is that he said these word to a sitting U.S. Senator who never rebuked him. Chuck Grassley essentially, tacitly, condoned a death threat on the POTUS. Grassley needs to be impeached for that.

This, to me, encapsulates the problem neatly.

It's not the loonies. It's the tacit--and often overt--acceptance of the loonies by people who are theoretical grown-ups. (Then again, I've had one encounter with Grassley's office harassing my workplace and unable to understand the concept of "the east coast office is closed for the day," so who knows what he's really like.)

seriously, wake me when we're marching into Mexico or rounding folks up into camps or when the military is raiding citizen's homes. shit, the most Hitler-esque things Obama's involved in are simply extensions of the last President's stupid policies (or just the US status quo, like no knock warrants, which I don't think is what this old dumbass is worried about). dangerously ignorant fuckers.

I knew things would get scarier. I told my friends that Fox News would get louder and more blatant, that domestic terrorism would rise, that open hate speech would become the norm of the opposition. that said, knowing makes this no less frightening or offensive.
