We only went to the Dells once when I was a kid, and I wasn't scarred for life. (Well, okay, not from not going to the Dells, anyway.) Personally, I always just had a hell of a time going to a hotel and eating in restaurants and swimming and watching cable...but then again, we didn't have cable.
