so, shit goes on, three days chock full of chaos, suck, fail, anxiety and drama. fuckit, I'm going to have a drink, watch something shiny, and go to sleep. try again tomorrow.


But A question for all y'all. Does a kiss on the neck pretty much unambiguously mean something sexual, or am I seeing it as overintimate because I have a neck thing? It came up again, and I have a whole list in my head of people I was attracted to who at one time or another laid one right on that spot on your neck towards the ear, usually in a hug? And it has always tortured me that I don't know if it means what it means to me.

I think cultural and personal differences factor into it immensely, so it would really depend on the person doing it. If someone was very touchy-feely in general, I wouldn't necessarily assume it meant anything, but I honestly can't imagine being in a position where I would kiss or be kissed by someone on the neck that wasn't someone I was already in a romantic/sexual relationship with, so.

I do the kiss-on-the-neck thing and I only mean it not as a come-on to people I have ESTABLISHED a non-sexual relationship with. So, like, my parents. ... Yeah.

I probably sometimes do this when doing the European cheek-kissing thing and either overshoot the mark, or kissee turns their head.

Clearly always to me, no exception. And I am European. In Germany, a lot of areas have the cheek kissing thing for greetings. But the neck? Oh no, that one is pretty clear.

(Unless it's accidental, like oursin describes, but I think that's a given.)

My experience on both ends of such a thing indicates that usually, if someone's kissing that spot, it's because they would LIKE to kiss you on the mouth but haven't worked up the guts, and that's an easy spot to get to while hugging and it can totally be played off as, "Oh, it was just FRIENDLY."

I'm on the administering end of such a kiss weekly, and that's what it means for me, anyhow. =P

Interesting question-- this may be me, personally, or tied to my age and where I grew up, but a kiss anywhere except on forehead or cheek, a kiss involving tongue (opposed to closed clips), is some indication of interest beyond the friendly/social type. And even the above can differ depending on position of bodies (touching below the neck) and hands!

But I grew up in notoriously repressed period/place!
