re the new shiny

I hadn't realized how busted my old machine was even when it was "working." watching vids on a screen that isn't dimmed and miscolored is amazing! having ALL the keys work, omg! having more memory on my main drive than it takes to run my os! ASTOUNDING!
Also, zareason has an "open hardware warranty" policy. this means it comes with a screwdriver and a notice that I can open it up and put in whatever bells and whistles I like, and not only does it not void the warranty, they encourage it.

And they're linux specific! and basically a family company that started because their kids were into computer geekery and they really support the open source movement as a philosophy. and just all community oriented. kids work there! I heard about them through sumanah. they rock. also, when I first heard of them I dropped them a line asking whether they were going to develop a netbook, and they responded within 24 hours.
they just seem to be in it for the right reasons, y'know?
and this is like, the tiniest thing, but I was just on their linux merch page, and the shirts are labeled ""Friends Help Friends Use Linux" T-shirt" and "Friends help friends use Linux, men's" defaulting to women's. little things, but fuck yeah.
and my home button? has an ubuntu logo on it.
