So, I was IM'ing with someone who only knows me from another online forum, and sent them a picture of me and the baby, and they were like "oh shit, yer a girl." They thoughtI was a guy, and that I had misrepresented myself. And earlier this week someone else I only know online was apparently surprised to find out I am white.

So, to clear up any confusions, I am a white girl, who is now considering using a pic of herself as her usericon everywhere on the internet, so as not to be implying anything she is not.

And what the hell does "you write like a guy" mean?

People like to assume that anyone they think is smart is a d00d. My gf (who well kind of looks like a boy) has had other scientists who didn't know that she had a girl's name talk with her, realize after a long time that she's not a d00d, and then tell her that they had started reading her publications differently. like woah.
