also, we've started going to church.
Oct. 12th, 2008 05:29 pmthe UU, mind you, not like "CHURCH" but it's giving me a lot to process. We're in for the community and socialization, not so much the "religion" but at least that part is compatible. We even went to a potluck!
I somehow assumed that diversity of belief would translate into diversity of people, though, so I find the UU community to be surprisingly white, middle class, and normal. But they are very welcoming to us, so I don't feel out of place the way I usually do in that sort of group.
But a church where they quote Alice Walker during the sermon is probably where I belong.

One of the Sunday school teachers will read a book that touches upon the sermon of the day (last week it was ("Jesse's Dream Skirt"), and then after the book the children file out of the room while all of the grown ups sing:
"You are loved, you are blessed, keep open your hearts and minds. May the light of truth surround you...go now and shine."
